On Sunday the Women’s 1st team travelled to Spean Bridge to take on Lochaber. Despite the poor weather, the team took confidence from their recent string of winning performances and were looking to build on that success.
The game got off to a fantastic start with some great play all across the pitch. It was Dour who took an early lead with a brilliant strike from Rosie Mulligan. Both teams were pushing forward but strong defensive performances were repelling any promising attacks. Towards the end of the half ‘super Cooper’ Riane took a majestic touch to the ball which was agonisingly, but impressively, saved by the Lochaber keeper. This spurred Riane on and she would later sneak a ball past the keeper getting a well deserved goal to take Dour in to half time 2-1 up.
The second half continued to be very competitive, both sides defending and attacking well. Lochaber were more clinical and scored to make it 2-2 at which it remained until the 90th minute. Unfortunately for Dour, Lochaber were able to score a controversial, late winner. Despite the result, the team put in a performance to be proud of!
Woman of the Match deservedly goes to Niamh ‘Neymar’ Donnelly for her fantastic performance at full centre. Niamh fought tirelessly to win every ball, sending some fantastic passes to the forward line. Niamh also managed to stay on her feet for the whole duration of the game, perhaps even more impressive than her performance!
The Women’s 1st’s now have a couple of weeks off before a tough trip to Badenoch.
